Sizzlin' Summer Slimdown 2019 gives you everything you need to make it happen.
Remember when you were a kid and just couldn't WAIT for summer? School seemed to drag on forever, the days were getting warmer, and you just wanted to be free! The thought of the warm sun on your face, the soft grass between your toes, days with your friends at the beach, and those long summer nights? A little piece of heaven.
So what happened? If you are like me, you don't think about those days so much anymore. The stress of life seems to drown out any thoughts of fun in the sun. And like me at one time, maybe the body just gets really tired, and you've put on a few pounds, and you just don't have the energy to do it anymore. I've been there. I think at one time or another most of us have been there.
The good news? It doesn't have to stay that way.
Truth be told I hate the beach ("I" being Coach Dean). I'm just not a beach person. I don't like walking around in a bathing suit, no matter what kind of shape I'm in. But I do want to feel like I could if I wanted to. I guess maybe as a former 280 pound person, I never quite got over the body image thing.
But you know what? So what!
I look forward to our annual Sizzlin' Summer Slimdown (S3) as a way to get refocused after a long winter, and spend just a season tightening up on my nutrition and learning new ways to eat healthier, and tasty new foods to do it with.
And even if I don't want to go lounge on the beach, carrying 10 less pounds on a hike in the mountains, or tearing through the woods on the mountain bike, or even just a leisurely walk through the neighborhood is a lot easier.
And if that doesn't jazz you, the health benefits should. Less body fat means less stress on your internal organs like your heart, lungs and kidneys, and you will be amazed how good your knee and hips will feel too.
That's what S3 2019 is all about!
We do a few "transformation type" challenges every year, and every year S3 is my favorite. The energy, camaraderie, teamwork and most of all the results! Seeing a couple hundred people literally work their butt off is a blast!

Teamwork Makes The Dream Work
We like to change S3 up a little every year to keep it fresh, but we just KNEW we had to have the team element back in play this year.
So the brain power behind the two gyms (Coaches Nancy and Meagan) brought back one of our favorite challenge formats...

Why teams? Because we all need someone to lift us up on the down days, and kick us in the pants when we are slacking off. And the truth is we are more motivated to do our best by not letting others down...it's a fact.
And don't worry, we'll be flexible with team sizes (from 3-5), and if you need help finding a team, we will assist you with that too.
As soon as you register you will receive an email with a little bit of homework. There will be a link where you'll tell us who you are and the name of the team you are on (yup - you need a name). If you don't have a team let us know that and we'll hook you up. But really, how hard can it be to come up some peeps that want to join you on your "quest for your best" summer ever? Your team could be from your own gym, a mix of peeps from both gyms, or even friends and family (framily?) who don't train with us - yet!
Each team of four will also be overseen by one of our awesome coaches. They'll help you if you get stuck, make sure you know the "how, when and where" of the challenge, and make sure you have what you need to be super successful.
And along the way we will have some fun events and challenges on the schedule to keep you in the game and having fun!
You'll Have Everything You Need
Here's How It Works
Our theme this year is "Success Simplified". We want to make sure that you can absolutely do this, if you put your mind to it and are determined to Make It Happen.
But I want you to have eyes wide open. "Simple" and "Easy" are not the same thing. There is a reason it's called a challenge and a reason it only lasts 6 weeks.
Can I get real? When it comes down to it eating healthy is not hard, it's simply a choice you make. Every single person reading this knows what hard is. Fighting cancer is hard. Losing a parent or spouse is hard. You only get one life and one body. You are an adult and it's time to take responsibility for your choices, good and/or less than ideal. YOU are not a bad person regardless. Just own it. Some people may think I am a lousy "salesperson" by telling you this, and that's ok. I am a coach first and foremost, and the last thing any of us involved in this project want is for you to be less happy with yourself at the end of the 6-weeks than you were when you started.
Eating healthy, nutritious food, and in the way we are going to do it over the next 6-weeks may be different than you are eating now, and that can seem hard. I get that. But that's why we are here. To assist you through those challenges and on to a happier and healthier you.
About The Meal Plan
The meal plan strategy is what is commonly referred to as "carb cycling". For the first two weeks we are going to be getting our carbohydrates primarily from vegetables and fruits. During weeks three and four the base meal plan is the same as weeks one and two, except we will be adding "other carbs" to your meals on two of your training days. Your strategy for weeks five and six will be based on your results over the first four weeks. The cool thing? You are going to learn how your body reacts and feels after each of these two week periods, and that is information you can use for a lifetime! And don't stress. We will cover all this in our kickoff meeting. Easy peasy.
How Do You Win?
We've simplified that too. S3 2019 is a "weight loss" challenge. The winner(s) will be determined by who lost the highest percentage of weight over the six week period. While we are still using the InBody and Fit3D, we are super simplifying our scoring this year too!
Examples:
Challenger One:
Starting weight: 230
Ending weight: 216
Weight lost: 14 pounds
Percentage lost: 6.1%
Challenger Two:
Starting weight: 148
Ending weight: 139
Weight lost: 9 pounds
Percentage lost: 6.1%
Challenger Three:
Starting weight: 162
Ending weight: 150
Weight lost: 12 pounds
Percentage lost: 7.4%%
In this example, Challenger Three would be the winner based on highest percentage lost, even though they lost less total weight than Challenger One. Cool?
Rules Of The Game
Again we are trying to make this as easy and fair as possible, but there has got to be a few rules, right? :)
- All weigh-ins must be done with and recorded by a coach (You can do your Fit3D by yourself :0 ) When you step on the scale for this purpose, men will wear t-shirts and shorts, and women t-shirts and shorts or training pants. No shoes or socks, sweatshirts, etc. No gold bullion in your pockets at the initial weigh-in, and no inhaling helium for the last one. (Although it would be fun to hear you talk funny.)
- At the end of every week you will get a reminder to do your "weekly check-in". You must get 5 out of 6 of these done to remain eligible for prizes.
- Anyone can participate, but to be eligible for prizes you must be able to do your weigh-ins at our facilities.
That's pretty much it. Simple, remember?
Speaking Of Winning
What also makes this contest so much fun is the prizes we get to hand out every year. As is our custom, we will be splitting up the prize pool this way:
- The Grand Prize Winner Will Receive Cash and/or Prizes worth 25% of the Pool.
- The Winning Team (best average weight lost) Will Receive Cash and/or Prizes worth 25% of the Pool.
The last couple years that has been over $2000 for each of those categories - BOOM!
